Label & Barcode Printers for Australian Business — Zebra, Honeywell, TSC & More
POS Plaza stocks Australia's most complete range of label and barcode printers — from compact desktop units to high-speed industrial machines suited to warehouse, manufacturing, and logistics environments. Brands include Zebra, Honeywell, TSC, BIXOLON, Brother, and Citizen, all authorised Australian stock with same-day dispatch from our Sydney warehouse. Prices start from $285 inc GST for a desktop direct thermal printer, through to $4,599 for high-end industrial models.
What types of label printers do we stock?
Direct Thermal Label Printers print using heat-sensitive media — no ink, toner, or ribbon required. They are the lowest-cost option to run per label, ideal for shipping labels, warehouse pick labels, pharmacy labels, food date labels, and any short-life application. Popular models include the Zebra ZD411, Zebra ZD421, Honeywell PC42E-D, and TSC DA210. Prices from $285 inc GST.
Thermal Transfer Label Printers use a wax, wax-resin, or resin ribbon to fuse ink onto the label surface, producing durable prints that resist heat, moisture, chemicals, and UV light for years. The right choice for product identification, compliance labels, asset tags, cold storage labels, outdoor labels, and any application requiring a label lifespan beyond 12 months. Popular models include the Zebra ZD421, Zebra ZD620, Honeywell PC42T, and BIXOLON SLP-TX400G. Prices from $385 inc GST.
Industrial Label Printers are heavy-duty, high-volume machines built for continuous 24/7 operation in warehouses, manufacturing plants, distribution centres, and logistics hubs. Die-cast aluminium or steel construction, large-capacity media holders, faster print speeds (up to 300 mm/sec), and wider media support (up to 6 inches). Key models include the Zebra ZT230, ZT411, ZT421, ZT610, and Honeywell PM45A. Prices from $1,190 inc GST.
Mobile Label Printers are battery-powered, compact units for on-the-go labelling — field service, retail stocktaking, healthcare bedside labelling, and logistics. They connect via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to a tablet or smartphone.
Direct thermal vs thermal transfer — which should you choose?
This is the single most important label printer decision. Here's the simple rule:
- Choose direct thermal if your labels are for shipping, logistics, food service, or any short-life application (under 12 months). No ribbon to buy or replace — lower running cost.
- Choose thermal transfer if your labels need to last more than 12 months, or will be exposed to heat, sunlight, moisture, outdoor conditions, freezer temperatures, or chemicals. Ribbon cost is offset by label durability.
- Choose a dual-mode printer (e.g., Honeywell PD45S) if you need the flexibility to run both media types on one machine.
Which label printer brands does POS Plaza stock?
Zebra is the most specified brand in Australian warehouses and retail. The ZD series covers desktop direct thermal and thermal transfer; the ZT series covers midrange and industrial. Zebra printers use ZPL (Zebra Programming Language), the industry standard supported by virtually all label design software.
Honeywell offers excellent value across desktop (PC42E-D, PC42T) and industrial (PD45S, PM45A) models. The PM45A features a full-colour touch display for easy on-floor configuration. Honeywell printers support both ZPL-compatible and Fingerprint/Direct Protocol command sets.
TSC provides strong value-for-money across the range, including the MH641T — a 600 dpi industrial printer for demanding, high-precision labelling. TSC printers use TSPL (TSC Programming Language).
BIXOLON and Brother round out the desktop range, with popular models for retail and office label printing. Citizen and Star Micronics offer specialist models including the TSP654IISK linerless sticky label printer for food service and hospitality.
Label printer software compatibility
All Zebra and Honeywell printers are compatible with popular label design software including ZebraDesigner, Bartender, NiceLabel, and TEKLYNX. Most models also install with standard Windows drivers for use with Word, Excel, or custom ERP and WMS platforms. TSC printers support TSPL command sets and work with Bartender and NiceLabel. If you need to confirm compatibility with a specific platform or enterprise system, contact our team before ordering.

Frequently asked questions — label printers
Q: Do I need special software to use a label printer?
A: Most label printers install with a standard Windows printer driver and can print from any application that supports printing. For professional barcode label design — adding barcodes, variable data, database connections, and serialisation — label design software like Bartender, NiceLabel, or ZebraDesigner is recommended. We can advise on the right software for your requirements.
Q: What label media do I need?
A: Label media depends on your printer type and application. Direct thermal printers require heat-sensitive direct thermal paper. Thermal transfer printers use a ribbon plus a label substrate — either coated paper, synthetic polyester (PET), or polypropylene (PP) depending on the durability required. POS Plaza stocks a full range of label rolls in standard sizes.
Q: Do you offer same-day dispatch?
A: Yes. Orders placed before 2 pm AEST on business days are dispatched same day from our Sydney warehouse. We ship to all Australian states and territories, including metro and regional areas. Free shipping on orders over $500 ex GST.
