Mobile Receipt Printers — Portable Bluetooth & WiFi Printing for iPad POS, Hospitality & Markets
Mobile receipt printers let you print receipts anywhere — tableside in a restaurant, at a market stall, from a food truck, or at a customer's door during a delivery. Battery-powered and connected wirelessly via Bluetooth or WiFi, they pair with smartphones, tablets, iPads, and laptops running any major POS platform. POS Plaza stocks mobile receipt printers from Epson, Star Micronics, Bixolon, Citizen, Brother, Honeywell, and Zebra — covering 58mm, 80mm, and 112mm print widths for every receipt format from compact café dockets to full A5-width invoices. Prices from $239 inc GST, with same-day dispatch from our Sydney warehouse.
What are mobile receipt printers used for?
Mobile receipt printers solve the problem of printing receipts at the point of transaction when that point moves:
- Tableside ordering and payment in restaurants and cafés — Waitstaff carry a mobile printer to print order dockets and payment receipts at the table. Reduces trips to a fixed counter printer and speeds up table turnover. Popular with iPad and tablet-based POS systems in hospitality.
- Food trucks and mobile catering — No fixed counter, no power outlet for a desktop printer. A battery-powered mobile printer paired with Square, Shopify, or Lightspeed on an iPad is the standard setup for Australian food trucks and mobile catering operations.
- Markets, pop-up stores, and events — Temporary retail setups where portability is essential. Mobile printers pack down small, run on battery, and connect to any smartphone or iPad via Bluetooth.
- Field service and trade — Tradespeople, technicians, and delivery drivers printing invoices or job completion receipts on-site. The Honeywell RP4E and Zebra ZQ series support printing directly from job management apps on Android and iOS.
- Home delivery and click-and-collect — Drivers and pick-up staff print proof-of-delivery receipts or packing slips without returning to a fixed printer.
- Retail shop floor — Roving sales staff at large-format retail stores can complete transactions and print receipts anywhere on the floor without directing customers to a fixed register.
58mm, 80mm, or 112mm — which paper width do you need?
58mm (2.3-inch) is the most compact paper width — suited to simple receipts for retail, café, and market use where the receipt is short. The Star SM-L200 is a popular 58mm Bluetooth mobile printer for light use. Rolls are smaller and lighter, extending battery life. Not suited to detailed invoices or receipts with many line items.
80mm (3.1-inch) is the standard receipt printer width — the same width used in most desktop receipt printers. It accommodates a full receipt with logo, line items, tax breakdown, and payment details. The majority of mobile receipt printers in our range print 80mm paper, including the Epson TMP80, Bixolon SPP-R310, Citizen CMP-30, and Brother RJ-3035. This is the recommended width for most hospitality and retail applications.
112mm (4.4-inch) prints wider receipts and A4-width documents — suited to field service invoices, delivery dockets, and applications where a full-width document is required. The Citizen PD-24 and Honeywell RP4E support 112mm paper, making them suited to trade, logistics, and service industry use.
Bluetooth vs WiFi vs NFC — which connectivity do you need?
Bluetooth is the simplest and most widely used connectivity for mobile receipt printers. The printer pairs directly with a smartphone, tablet, or iPad — no network required. It is the correct choice for markets, food trucks, tableside printing, and any environment without a consistent WiFi network. Range is typically 10 metres.
WiFi (WLAN) connects the printer to your venue's network, enabling it to receive print jobs from multiple devices and from a server — suited to restaurants where orders may be sent from a POS system at the counter to a printer carried by a runner, or where centralised print management is needed. The Epson TMP80 and Honeywell PR3A support WiFi alongside Bluetooth.
NFC (Near Field Communication) allows tap-to-pair connection — hold an NFC-enabled phone or tablet near the printer to pair instantly without going through Bluetooth settings. Supported on the Honeywell RP4E. Useful in high-turnover environments where staff switch devices frequently.
Which brands do we stock?

Frequently asked questions — mobile receipt printers
Q: Do mobile receipt printers work with iPad and iPhone?
A: Yes. Most mobile receipt printers in our range are iOS compatible via Bluetooth. Models with Apple MFi certification (Made for iPhone/iPad) — including the Brother RJ-3035 and Star SM-L200/L300 — connect directly to iPhone and iPad without any additional drivers or apps. Star Micronics printers also support Star PassPRNT for iOS app integration. Always check the individual product listing for MFi or iOS compatibility before purchasing.
Q: Will a mobile receipt printer work with Square POS?
A: Yes, with compatible models. Square supports Bluetooth receipt printers on iOS and Android. The Star SM-L200 and SM-L300 are confirmed Square-compatible. Star Micronics printers use Star's PassPRNT SDK which Square's iOS and Android apps support natively. For Android-based Square setups, the Epson TMP80 (Bluetooth + WiFi) and Bixolon SPP-R310 are compatible options. Contact us on 1300 115 808 to confirm compatibility with your specific Square device and version before ordering.
Q: How long does the battery last on a mobile receipt printer?
A: Battery life varies by model and print volume. Compact models like the Star SM-L200 and Brother RJ-3035 typically provide 3–5 hours of intermittent printing on a single charge — suitable for a market day or a restaurant lunch and dinner service. High-capacity models like the Zebra ZQ series and Honeywell RP4E are designed for extended shifts of 8+ hours. Most models support USB charging via a standard charger or charging cradle.
Q: Can I use a mobile receipt printer with Shopify POS?
A: Yes. Shopify POS supports Star Micronics and Epson Bluetooth receipt printers on iOS devices. The Star SM-L300 and Epson TMP series are confirmed compatible. Shopify's hardware requirements recommend iOS devices for the best Bluetooth printer experience. For Android-based Shopify POS setups, check compatibility with the specific Android version on your device. Contact us on 1300 115 808 for pre-purchase compatibility advice.
Q: What is the difference between a mobile receipt printer and a mobile label printer?
A: Mobile receipt printers are optimised for printing customer receipts, order dockets, and invoices on standard thermal paper rolls (58mm, 80mm, or 112mm wide). Mobile label printers are optimised for printing barcode labels, asset tags, and shipping labels on label rolls. Some devices — like the Bixolon SPP-R410 — support both receipt and label printing from a single unit. If you need to print both, a combo device or two separate specialised printers may be the right approach depending on your volumes.
Q: Do mobile receipt printers need special paper rolls?
A: Mobile receipt printers use standard direct thermal paper rolls — the same technology as desktop receipt printers, just in smaller roll diameters to fit the compact housing. The paper width must match the printer: 58mm, 80mm, or 112mm. Check that the roll's outer diameter fits your printer's paper compartment — mobile printers typically accept rolls with a smaller outer diameter (OD) than desktop printers. See our Thermal Receipt Rolls range for compatible paper.
