The Star SP742 is a 9 pin impact dot matrix printer, which in a kitchen is not a dated choice but the correct one. It presses ink from a ribbon onto plain bond paper, so the docket survives heat, steam and grease that would turn a thermal receipt black within minutes of being clipped above a grill. It prints at up to 8.9 lines per second, cuts automatically, and produces up to three carbon copies in a single pass.
This particular build adds Star CloudPRNT and WebPRNT to the Ethernet connection. That matters when the software taking the order is not in the building. Sold and supported in Australia by POS PLAZA on 1300 115 808.
POS PLAZA stocks the SP742 in USB, Ethernet and this CloudPRNT build. The mechanism, the ribbon and the paper are identical in all three, so the only real decision is how the order reaches it.
Ink on plain bond paper, which is why it is the printer kitchens use. A thermal docket above a grill darkens, curls and becomes unreadable within minutes.
With the RC700BR ribbon the printer puts allergy notes, priority lines or new items in red, which a chef reads across a pass far faster than bold text.

If your POS sits on the same network, the Ethernet model is simpler and cheaper. Choose this one when the software is in the cloud or the orders come from an ordering platform.
No ribbon is in the box. RC700B prints black, RC700BR prints black and red. The red is worth having in a kitchen.
76 mm plain bond, not thermal. If a venue is already buying thermal rolls for its receipt printer, it will need a second line item for this one.
Start with where the order comes from. A till on the same network as the printer wants the Ethernet model. A single till sitting beside the printer wants the USB one. Software that lives in the cloud, or orders that arrive from an ordering platform, want this CloudPRNT build. The printer itself is the same in all three.
It lets the printer collect its own work. The printer is given a web address and checks it on a schedule for jobs waiting to print, instead of waiting for something on the local network to send it one. That is what makes it usable with software that is not in the building.
Heat. A thermal docket is a chemical reaction on coated paper, and the same reaction happens near a grill or a steamer, so the docket goes dark and unreadable. Impact printing presses ink onto plain bond and does not care how hot the pass is.

Yes. It has a drawer kick out port, so a printer driven drawer opens when the docket prints, the same as on the USB and Ethernet models.
A 24 Months Return to Base term. Return to base means a failed printer comes back to us, is assessed, and is repaired or replaced in Australia. Ribbons and paper are consumables and sit outside warranty cover, as they do across the category.
