Most modern all in one terminals have quietly dropped the ports that a working counter actually uses. The XT-3817 G2 has not. It carries four RS232 serial ports, eight USB sockets split two USB 3.0 and six USB 2.0, two LAN ports and a VGA output, which means a scale, a pole display, a signature pad, a cash drawer and a pair of legacy peripherals can all stay exactly where they are when the till is replaced.
Behind the 17 inch bezel free projected capacitive screen is an Intel Celeron J6412, a quad core running to 2.60 GHz with 8 GB of DDR4 and a 128 GB M.2 SSD, and there is a spare M.2 slot if storage needs to grow. The whole thing is fanless, so there is no moving part to collect kitchen grease or retail dust, and it sits on Posiflex's Generation 7e base. Sold and supported in Australia by POS PLAZA on 1300 115 808.
Why this one rather than a cheaper till
Four real serial ports
Not a USB adaptor pretending to be one. Scales, older pole displays, signature pads and weighbridge equipment that expect RS232 plug straight in, which is usually what decides whether a counter can be upgraded at all.
Two network sockets
One for the store network and one for a payment terminal, a back office segment or a second VLAN. Sites that have to keep card traffic separate stop needing a switch under the counter.
Eight USB sockets
Two USB 3.0 for anything that moves data and six USB 2.0 for the scanner, the printer, the drawer, the keyboard and whatever else accumulates over five years.
Nothing spins
Fanless cooling and a solid state drive mean there is no moving part in the terminal. In a kitchen or a dusty retail floor that is the single biggest difference between a till that lasts and one that does not.
A screen you can actually hit
17 inches of projected capacitive touch, the same technology as a phone, so it responds to a light touch rather than needing a press, and the bezel free front wipes clean in one pass.
Room to grow
8 GB of DDR4 and 128 GB of SSD out of the box, with a free M.2 slot for more storage. A till bought for one job usually ends up doing three.
Where it fits
Hospitality
A fanless sealed body suits a kitchen pass or a bar, and 17 inches gives a table map room to breathe where a 15 inch screen starts to crowd.
Retail with legacy equipment
The serial ports are the reason. A store with a scale, a label printer and a pole display bought over fifteen years can move to new hardware without replacing all of it.
Multi site and franchise
Two LAN ports and Windows IoT make it straightforward to lock down, image and roll out identically across sites.
What Generation 7e and fanless actually mean
Posiflex builds these terminals on a common base, the Generation 7e, which carries the stand, the cable management and the mounting points. The practical effect is that the base, the VESA mounts and most of the accessories carry across the family, so a site running XT-3815 units can add a 17 inch XT-3817 without new brackets or a different cable routing.
Fanless matters more than it sounds. A fan is the one part of a terminal guaranteed to fail, and the way it fails is by pulling grease, flour or dust through the machine for a year first. Removing it removes the dominant failure mode on a counter, which is why fanless is standard on terminals built for hospitality rather than for an office desk.

Before you order
Count the serial devices
Four RS232 ports is generous, but tell us what is plugged in now and we will confirm the count before it ships rather than after.
Check the operating system
This build ships Windows IoT 2021. If your software vendor has certified only on Windows 11, say so and we will quote the XT-3815 G2 2024 build or ask Posiflex what else is available in 17 inch.
Think about the second LAN
If card traffic has to sit on its own network, that second port saves a switch. Mention it and we will set expectations on how your POS handles two interfaces.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many serial ports does it have?
Four RS232 ports, and they are genuine serial rather than USB adaptors. That matters because a USB to serial converter is the component that fails first in most counter installations, and on a busy site it is the thing nobody can diagnose at 9am.
What is the difference between this and the 15 inch XT-3815 G2?
Screen size first: 17 inches against 15. The processor, memory and storage are the same, and both carry four serial ports. This 17 inch build has two LAN ports to the 15 inch model's one, splits its USB differently with two USB 3.0 and six USB 2.0, and ships Windows IoT 2021 where the current 15 inch build ships Windows 11 IoT 2024.
Is the touch screen resistive or capacitive?
Projected capacitive, the same technology as a phone or tablet. It responds to a light touch rather than pressure, supports gestures, and the bezel free front means there is no lip around the glass for crumbs and liquid to collect in.
Can it be wall or pole mounted?
It ships on the Generation 7e base, and Posiflex offers VESA mounting for the family. Tell us how the counter is laid out and we will confirm the right bracket rather than guessing at it here.
Does it come with POS software?
No. It ships with Windows IoT 2021 and nothing else, which is deliberate: these terminals are sold to run whatever POS the site already uses. We can tell you whether your package is known to run on this hardware before you commit.
Why is there no fan?
Because a fan is the part most likely to fail, and in hospitality it fails after spending a year pulling grease and flour through the machine. Fanless cooling plus a solid state drive means the terminal has no moving parts at all.
What warranty does it carry?
A 36 Months Return to Base term. Return to base means a failed unit comes back to us, is assessed, and is repaired or replaced in Australia rather than through an overseas process. Power supplies, cables and consumables sit outside warranty cover, which is standard across the category.
