The Nexa BL-8080 is a black USB desktop 2D barcode scanner: a hands-free presentation unit that sits on the counter and reads whatever is held up to it. It handles ordinary 1D retail barcodes, 2D codes such as QR, and codes displayed on a phone or tablet screen.
It is the fifth generation of Nexa's BL-80x0 desktop series, a line that has been refined across successive revisions rather than redesigned each time, and it connects over USB as a plug-and-play keyboard so there is no driver to install and no POS integration work.
It replaces the Nexa BL-8060 and BL-8070, both now discontinued, and is the direct upgrade path for either. Nexa backs it with a 36 month replacement warranty, which is a step beyond the usual return-to-base repair cover on comparable scanners.

The BL-8080 is not the cheapest of the four and its warranty is not the longest, since all four carry 36 months. What separates it is that its cover is replacement rather than return to base. Choose the Zebra for extra host interfaces and a drop rating, the Datalogic for Digimarc and footprint, the Honeywell on price.

Nexa covers the BL-8080 for 36 months on a replacement basis. The distinction matters: the comparable Honeywell, Datalogic and Zebra presentation scanners we stock also carry 36 month cover, but theirs is return to base, meaning the unit is sent away and repaired. A replacement warranty swaps the unit instead, so a failure does not leave the counter without a scanner while a repair is turned around.
All four are hands-free 2D presentation scanners that read 1D, 2D and phone screens, so for everyday retail scanning they do the same job. The Zebra DS9308 adds RS232, keyboard wedge and IBM 46XX interfaces plus a 1.5m drop rating, which suits harder environments and older host systems. Yes. The BL-8080 supersedes both the Nexa BL-8060 and the BL-8070, which are now discontinued, and it is the direct replacement for either. It is the same desktop presentation format doing the same job, so it drops onto the counter in place of an older unit and connects the same way, over USB as a keyboard wedge with no driver. Because it presents as a keyboard, your POS does not need reconfiguring: it will read the new scanner exactly as it read the old one. It is also cheaper than either model it replaces and carries a longer 36 month replacement warranty where those carried 24 months return to base.
Almost certainly, without a driver. It presents to the computer as a USB keyboard, so a scanned barcode arrives exactly as if it had been typed. Any POS, spreadsheet or web form with a cursor in a field accepts it. If you need a suffix character or a particular symbology enabled, that is set by scanning configuration barcodes from the manual.
