The Element P42KS is a fixed-mount 2D barcode scanner built for embedded and unattended work. An omni-directional 640 x 480 pixel scanning camera with object auto-sense reads virtually any mainstream 1D or 2D barcode at speed, including codes shown on a mobile phone screen, with nobody having to press a trigger. Its miniature body is designed to sit inside a machine rather than in a hand, so it disappears behind a window or panel and simply works.
This version ships with a USB interface on a 1 metre pigtail, which gives you enough cable to reach a host PC or controller mounted elsewhere in a kiosk, ticket machine or self-service terminal. The same P42KS platform also supports RS232 for older or industrial hosts. If you need a shorter run, POS PLAZA also stocks the 30 centimetre pigtail version of the same scanner. Backed by a 24 Months Return to Base warranty and supported in Australia on 1300 115 808.
Why choose the Element P42KS
Omni-directional reads
High-speed capture from any angle, so a code is read the moment it enters the field of view.
All mainstream 1D and 2D
Built on an industry-leading scan platform that handles the everyday linear and matrix codes.
Reads phone screens
Captures barcodes and QR codes off mobile displays for tickets, vouchers and mobile payment.
Miniature and easy to integrate
A compact body made to fit neatly inside kiosks and terminals where there is little room to spare.
USB and RS232 ready
The platform supports both interfaces. This variant is the USB build with a 1 metre pigtail.
Object auto-sense
Detects a presented item by itself, so it runs hands-free in unattended and self-service settings.
Where it fits
Self-service and kiosks
E-commerce collection points, loyalty stations and access control, where the scanner lives behind a panel and customers serve themselves.
Ticketing and transport
Event ticket redemption, parking and ticket vending machines, transport boarding passes and check-in gates that read codes off a phone.
Logistics and production
Express delivery and postal lockers, gaming cash-out terminals and production lines where an OEM scanner is embedded in the equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the P42KS read QR codes and barcodes shown on a phone screen?
Yes. The P42KS reads all mainstream 1D and 2D barcodes and is built to capture codes displayed on mobile phone screens, which is what makes it suitable for ticket redemption, vouchers and mobile payment at a kiosk.
Does somebody have to press a trigger?
No. This is a fixed-mount scanner with omni-directional scanning and object auto-sense, so it reads a presented item automatically and runs hands-free in unattended and self-service installations.
What is the difference between this and the 30 centimetre version?
The scanner is the same. The only difference is the length of the attached USB pigtail: 1 metre here, 30 centimetres on SCETP42KSSR001. Choose the 1 metre cable when the host PC or controller sits away from the scan window, and the 30 centimetre cable when the two are side by side.
Can I run it over RS232 instead of USB?
The P42KS platform supports both RS232 and USB. This particular part number is the USB build with a USB pigtail fitted, so an RS232 host needs the RS232 version of the scanner rather than a change of cable. Call 1300 115 808 and we will confirm the right part number for your host.
What is a fixed-mount scanner used for?
A fixed-mount scanner is embedded inside equipment rather than held in the hand. The P42KS is designed for self-service kiosks, access control, loyalty stations, event ticket redemption, parking and ticket machines, transport boarding passes, postal and express delivery, gaming cash-outs and production lines.
Will it work with my POS or kiosk software?
Most scanners present scanned data to the host as standard keyboard input, which works with the majority of POS and kiosk applications. Some self-service platforms expect a specific scanner model or configuration, so check your platform's supported hardware list, or call our team on 1300 115 808 before you buy.
