Most label printers on a serving counter spend half their life producing rubbish. Every label you stick on a tray comes attached to a strip of silicone-coated backing paper, and that backing goes in the bin the moment the label comes off. On a busy morning a cafe can throw away as much paper as it sticks to cups.
The SRP-S300TX runs stock that has no backing at all. The adhesive sits on the reverse of the label itself and the roll feeds straight through, so a 103 mm roll holds far more printable metres than a lined roll of the same diameter and nothing is left over to tidy up. For a counter that labels every order, that is fewer roll changes per shift and one less bin to empty.
It is built as a counter machine rather than a back-office one. The power supply lives inside the case, so there is no brick hanging off the bench, and a water resistant cover over the main board is rated IP21 against drips from above.
What the taken sensor changes
Printing labels faster than someone can pick them up creates its own problem. The second label leaves the printer, meets the first one still sitting on the exit, and the adhesive does exactly what adhesive does. The result is a jam, and a jam at a service counter is a queue.
This build includes the paper taken sensor, which the SRP-S300 range offers as an option. It watches the exit slot and holds the next label in the buffer until the previous one has been lifted clear. Orders queued in the print spooler stay queued in order, and they come out one at a time in the order they were sent.
Alongside it sits the built-in B-Melodist, which can speak an error aloud rather than blink a light nobody is looking at, and can sound a single chime or a repeating alarm when an order is ready to collect.
Where it earns its keep
Butchers and delis
Weigh, price and stick in one movement, with nothing to peel and no backing strips collecting around the scales.
Coffee and quick service
One order label per cup, held at the exit until the barista takes it, so the sequence never scrambles during a rush.
Food preparation
Date and allergen labels on trays and containers, printed at 80 mm wide so the text stays readable across a cool room.
Delivery and collection
Bag seals and order slips that stick to the packaging itself, with the alarm telling the counter the run is ready.
Paper that lasts longer than it looks
Bixolon pairs the linerless path with a back-feed step. Rather than leaving a gap of blank stock above each label so the cutter has somewhere safe to land, the printer pulls the media back before it starts the next one. The brochure puts the leading gap at 4.6 mm instead of 14.6 mm, which turns a 50 mm label into a 40 mm one and takes roughly a fifth off the length of every job.
A separate paper saving mode trims the length of a printed receipt by up to a quarter by tightening the spacing it leaves around the text. Between the two, a roll that nominally holds a set number of metres produces noticeably more labels than the arithmetic suggests.
The paper path is shaped to resist jamming and the guillotine cutter is designed to be swapped out without a service visit, which matters on a machine that cuts every single label rather than one receipt per sale.
Media and consumables
The printer takes rolls up to 103 mm in diameter with a media thickness between 0.06 and 0.09 mm, in widths of 83, 80, 62, 58 or 40 mm. The TX build is specified for Linerless Extreme stock, which is a different adhesive class from the sticky and re-stick media used by the SRP-S300L.
We carry 80 mm linerless rolls that match the width and diameter, including 80 mm x 82 m full-cover linerless thermal rolls and 80 mm x 82 m continuous linerless label stock with black marks. Adhesive class varies between linerless products, so call us on 1300 115 808 before you commit to a pallet and we will confirm the match against your application.
SRP-S300TX or SRP-S300L
We list two machines from this family and they are not interchangeable. The difference is the media, not the feature list.

Common questions
Does it print receipts as well as labels?
It prints on the linerless stock you load, so a receipt printed on linerless media is a sticky receipt. The dedicated receipt variant in this family is the SRP-S300R, which runs plain thermal paper and prints faster. If you want one machine doing both jobs, work out which media you want in the roll bay first.
Can I add Ethernet or Wi-Fi later?
The SRP-S300 range is built around an interface card and the family offers serial, parallel, Ethernet, wireless, Bluetooth and powered USB options. This build ships with USB 2.0 fitted. Ring us on 1300 115 808 with your deployment and we will tell you what is available before you order rather than after.
How do I connect a cash drawer?
There is a drawer port on the back that splits to two drawers with a y-type adaptor, so the printer can trigger a pair of tills from one output.
Will it work with my POS software?
It carries BXL and POS emulation with Windows, OPOS, JPOS, Linux and Mac CUPS drivers, plus iOS, Android, Windows and Linux SDKs, which covers most packages that already drive a thermal printer. Check the printer list in your software for SRP-S300 or a Bixolon generic entry.
What does IP21 actually protect against?
It is a rating for vertically dripping water and for fingers being kept out of live parts. The cover shields the main board from splashes landing on the case from above. It is not a rating for hosing the printer down or for sitting it in standing water.
Does linerless stock cost more than ordinary labels?
Per roll it often does. Per label it frequently does not, because the roll holds more printable length at the same diameter and the back-feed step shortens every job. The honest answer is that it depends on your label size and your volume, so bring us your current roll and your weekly usage and we will do the sum with you.
Can it be mounted on a wall?
The SRP-S300 body supports wall mounting as well as sitting flat, which is useful where bench space at the pass is short. Tell us how you want it fixed and we will confirm the parts.
In short: the SRP-S300TX suits a counter that labels nearly every order and is tired of binning backing paper and unjamming the exit slot. It is a 3 inch, 203 dpi direct thermal machine running at up to 170 mm/sec on backing-free stock, with the taken sensor fitted so labels come out one at a time and stay in order. It is USB, it drives two cash drawers, and it is covered for 24 months return to base.
