The Bixolon SRP-275III is a compact impact (dot matrix) receipt printer that ships with USB, Serial and Ethernet all built in. It prints on plain bond paper with an inked ribbon rather than heat, so the receipt does not fade with warmth, light or age, and it can produce multi-part copies that a thermal printer cannot.

Two things set it apart from most impact printers in this class. Its power supply is housed inside the printer, so there is no external brick to find a powerpoint for or lose behind the counter. And at 239mm deep it is noticeably shallower than the usual 280mm-plus impact printer, which matters on a shallow counter or in a crowded POS bay.

Three interfaces in one printer

This is the model's main advantage. The SRP-275III supplied here carries USB 2.0, Serial (RS-232) and Ethernet in the one unit, so you are not committing to a single connection at purchase time:

  • Serial keeps older and industrial POS systems working. Plenty of installed software still drives a receipt printer over RS-232, and replacements with a serial port are getting harder to find.
  • USB is the simplest direct connection to a single till or PC.
  • Ethernet puts the printer on the network so multiple terminals can print to one device by IP.

That flexibility is worth real money on a fleet rollout or a staged upgrade. You can buy one model, deploy it over serial at a legacy site and over Ethernet at a new one, and keep a single spare on the shelf that covers both.

Where the SRP-275III fits

  • Retail counters and service desks that want a plain-paper receipt which stays readable for years rather than a thermal receipt that fades.
  • Sites with legacy or serial POS, where a modern USB-only printer simply will not connect.
  • Mixed fleets that want one printer model and one spare across sites on different connection types.
  • Counters tight on depth, where a 286mm-deep printer does not fit but a 239mm one does.
  • Anywhere a power brick is a nuisance, since the supply is internal.
  • Workshops, trade counters and dispatch, for multi-part paperwork on plain bond.

How it compares

All three are impact printers on plain bond paper, so all three produce a receipt that outlasts a thermal one. Pick on connectivity, footprint and what the site actually needs.

PrinterInterfacesChoose it when
Bixolon SRP-275III (this printer)USB, Serial and EthernetYou need serial or want all three options, the counter is shallow, or you would rather not deal with a power brick
Epson TM-U220IIBEthernetThe one to pick for a kitchen. It is the hospitality standard, runs 2-ply for a second docket copy, and has the widest POS support of any impact printer we sell
Element RW337DEthernet, Serial and USBBudget is the deciding factor and you still want a choice of connection

To be clear about the hospitality case: if you are buying a printer specifically to sit in a kitchen and print order dockets, we recommend the Epson TM-U220IIB rather than this one. It is the model most Australian venues and POS providers are built around, and it runs 2-ply so the kitchen copy and the pass copy print together. Choose the SRP-275III when connectivity, footprint or budget is what is driving the decision.

Paper and ribbons for the SRP-275III

This is an impact printer, so it does not take thermal paper. It runs plain bond rolls and an ERC-38 ribbon:

The ERC-38 cartridge is the same one used by the Epson TM-U220 series, so if you already run those printers your ribbon stock covers both.

Frequently asked questions

Which interfaces does this SRP-275III have?
The unit stocked here is the USB, Serial and Ethernet configuration, part number SRP-275IIICOESG. All three are present on the printer, so you choose the connection at install rather than at purchase. Bixolon also builds USB + Parallel and USB + Serial versions of the SRP-275III; if you specifically need the parallel model, contact us before ordering.
Does it need an external power brick?
No. The power supply is housed inside the printer, so it runs from a standard mains lead with nothing extra on the floor or behind the counter. Most competing impact printers in this class use an external adaptor.
What paper and ribbon does the SRP-275III use?
Plain bond paper 76.5mm wide, on rolls up to 83mm in diameter, plus an ERC-38 ribbon cartridge. Use ERC-38B for black or ERC-38BR for black and red. It does not use thermal paper.
Can it print in two colours?
Yes, black and red, with an ERC-38BR ribbon fitted. Red is typically used to pick out totals, refunds, warnings or promotional lines on a receipt.
Will it work with my POS software?
Bixolon supplies Windows, OPOS and JavaPOS drivers, and having USB, Serial and Ethernet on board means the physical connection is rarely the obstacle. Software support is the thing to check: some cloud POS platforms only certify a named list of printer models. Check the SRP-275III against your POS provider's supported-hardware list, or call us on 1300 115 808 and we will confirm it before you order.
How many cash drawers can it drive?
It provides two kick-out ports through a Y-type adaptor, so it can trigger two drawers from the one printer. Most impact printers in this class offer one.
Should I buy this or the Epson TM-U220IIB?
For a kitchen, buy the Epson TM-U220IIB. It is the hospitality default, it runs 2-ply so the kitchen and pass copies print in one pass, and it has the broadest POS support. Choose the SRP-275III when you need Serial or USB as well as Ethernet, when counter depth is tight, when you would rather avoid an external power brick, or when budget is the deciding factor.
Why choose impact over a thermal receipt printer?
Thermal printers are quieter, faster and cheaper to run, and for a dry counter with short-lived receipts they are the better buy. Impact wins on longevity and duplicates: an inked receipt on bond paper does not darken with heat, sunlight or age, and only impact can produce a genuine multi-part copy. If your receipts get filed, posted or kept for warranty and tax records, impact is the safer choice.
