The facestock here is a synthetic film, not paper. Water does not soften it, oils and solvents do not break it down, and it does not fibre up or tear when handled hard, so the label and its barcode stay readable.
Print the roll on a thermal transfer printer with a resin or wax/resin ribbon. Resin bonds a sealed image to the plastic face that survives solvent wipes and abrasion. Plain wax smears off synthetic stock, and direct thermal will not mark it at all. The permanent adhesive bonds firmly and is not meant to be lifted again.
